Obituary

Funeral service for Albert Melvin Hazel, age 85, of Frederick, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2020, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Les Banks and Boomer Butler officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. Hazel passed away Tuesday morning, February 4, 2020, at English Village Nursing Home in Altus, Oklahoma.

Albert Melvin Hazel was born January 27, 1935 near Tipton, Oklahoma to Ernest Lee and Nettie Mae (Smith) Hazel. He was raised on a farm and dairy southwest of Tipton. He attended Tipton Public Schools, graduating from Tipton High School with the Class of 1953. His favorite subject was agricultural mechanics. On September 30, 1955, he married Jerri Ann Brittain at the First Baptist Church in Frederick, Oklahoma. Albert and Jerri were married fifty-four years before her death on July 5, 2010. In the mid-seventies, he became a full-time farmer. He grew alfalfa, peanuts, wheat, oats, cotton and soybeans along with raising cattle and sheep. He retired from farming in 2010. He moved to English Village Nursing home in Altus, Oklahoma on January 19, 2015 where he lived until his death. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Frederick.

He is survived by one brother, Lowell Hazel; two sons, Richard Melvin Hazel and his wife Tori of Altus, Oklahoma and Robert Mark Hazel of Frederick, Oklahoma; two grandchildren Mallory Johnson and her three children Emma and Ella Johnson of Sentinel, Oklahoma and Milo Joiner of Weatherford, Oklahoma, and Mackenzie Butler and her husband Boomer and their daughter Olivia of Elk City, Oklahoma; one aunt, Charlene Johnson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Nettie Hazel; and his wife, Jerri.
