Memorial service for Allen R. Powell, age 75, of Tipton, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 8, 2019 at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Wayne Ingalls officiating. Mr. Powell passed away on Wednesday morning, April 3, 2019 at Plantation Village Nursing Center in Altus.
Allen Ray Powell was born on November 9, 1943 in Dallas, Texas to Raymond Thompson and Allene Frances (Barnes) Powell. He attended Tipton Public Schools, graduating from Tipton High School in 1962. He later attended Central State University in Edmond. Allen played the trumpet in high school and with the United States Army Band while in active service. On May 20, 1989, he was united in marriage to Jennie (Cryer) Powell in Tipton, Oklahoma. He hit the road as an accomplished trumpet player. He played with several band and later returned to Oklahoma City and played with a jazz band. He and his brother Mike had an active music ministry in the 80's traveling to different states. Allen worked in law enforcement for over ten years before serving as Chief of Police for the City of Tipton. In 1994, he and Jennie moved to the state of Alaska where he was employed for Perkins-Coie Law Firm for many years. He retired in 2008. Allen was an avid fly fisherman and hunter. While in Alaska he enjoyed the majestic beauty of the great outdoors. He and his brother were well known for their great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie Powell; two daughters, Rebecca Western of Tipton, Oklahoma and Kimberly Russell and her husband David of Tipton, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Steffan Contreras, Sarah Russell, Parker Russell, Joshua Contreras, Hannah Western, Matthew Western, David Russell, II and Jessica Russell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother Mike Powell; and one nephew, Michael Powell, Jr.
