Funeral service for former Frederick resident Anita L. Pothorst age 87, of Lawton, Oklahoma will be at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, September 10, 2017, at the Tesca Baptist Church in Frederick with Rev. Les Banks officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Pothorst passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017, in a Lawton hospital.
Anita Lucille (Chesser) Pothorst was born January 15, 1930, in Stringtown, Oklahoma to Custer E. and Minnie Mae (Mitchell) Chesser. She attended Weaver Consolidated #13 School, southwest of Frederick and graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 1949. On July 2, 1953, she and Bobby E. Pothorst were united in marriage in Frederick, Oklahoma. Mr. Pothorst preceded her in death on February 13, 2000. She worked for many years as an operator for General Telephone Company. Anita was a helpmate to her husband on the farm and was also a wonderful homemaker. Her family was her pride and joy! She loved to have company and was always her happiest when her family and friends would stop by for a visit. She was an excellent cook and was well known for her cream pies. She was a longtime and faithful member of the Tesca Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Randy Pothorst and his wife Patsy of McAlister, Oklahoma and Steve Pothorst and his wife Delisa of Duke, Oklahoma; one daughter, Sherri Knight and her husband Steven of Lawton, Oklahoma; three brothers, Leon Chesser and his wife Dee of Fort Worth, Texas, Bill Chesser and his wife Linda of Frederick, Oklahoma and James Chesser and his wife Hope of Irving, Texas; three sisters, Ollie Price of Altus, Oklahoma, Dorothy Stokes of Altus, Oklahoma and Eleanor Price of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Jason Knight, Natalie Gordon, Silas Knight and his wife Felicia, Darrell Pothorst, Valerie Jiles and her husband Kyle and Stephnee Pendergraft; eleven great-grandchildren, Caleb, Silas, Annabelle, Penelope and Roman Knight, Landon, Eli and Jolea Jiles, Julie and Jamie Pendergraft and Dustin Best; and a host of Nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bobby Pothorst; three brothers, Ralph, A.J. and Charles Chesser; and one sister, Alma Hayes.
