Funeral Service for Areta Brown Johnson age 89, of Frederick, Oklahoma will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shane Kendrix officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Johnson passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016, in an Altus nursing center.

Areta Brown Johnson was born June 25, 1927, in Chattanooga, Oklahoma to Oliver Arthur and Vivian (Coursey) Brown, Sr., she attended Chattanooga Public School and later transferred to Frederick High School. On November 26, 1944, she and Walter Murl Johnson were united in marriage in Vernon, Texas. He preceded her in death on September 19, 1999. Areta was an avid china painter and won many awards for her pieces of china. She was also a wonderful seamstress and made many of her children's and grandchildren's clothes. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son Mike Johnson and his wife Pam of Frederick; one daughter, Tina Williams and her husband Eddie of Altus; one sister, Sue Boatright and her husband Galen of Mustang, OK; five grandchildren, Dedee Emory and her husband Jason, Brooke Ragan and her husband Doug, Bunny Stanphill and her husband Stephen, Ty Johnson and his wife Kelsey and Clay Johnson and his wife Shonda; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Oliver Alfred Brown, Jr.
