Requiem Mass for Ascencion Ybarra Gomez, age 89, of Frederick will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at St. Helen's Catholic Church in Frederick with Father Cory Stanley officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. Gomez passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016 in a Lawton hospital. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at the funeral home.

Ascencion Ybarra Gomez was born on June 9, 1927 in Alice, Texas to Catarino and Guadalupe (Ybarra) Gomez. He attended school in Robstown, Texas. On September 26, 1951, he was united in marriage to Aurora Hinojosa. He had worked for many years at Centra Granite Company in Frederick until the company closed. He later worked at Tillman County Memorial Hospital until he retired in 1989. He enjoyed going to the casino and fishing. He was an avid Texas Ranger and Oklahoma Sooner fan. Mr. Gomez was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Aurora Gomez of the home; two sons, Jesse Gomez and his wife Debi of Frederick and Manuel Gomez and his wife Dora of Mansfield, Texas; one sister, Teofila Pena' of Robstown, Texas; six grandchildren; Shawn Gomez and his wife Shelby, Shae Lynn Sellars and her husband Joshua, Greg Carter-Nowicki and his husband Joe, Brandy Jo Roberts and her husband Joshua, Marie Nichol Gomez-Clark and her husband Dean Precourt and Tara Beth Gomez and her companion Alex Alvear; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Juan Gomez; one grandson, Nicholas Gomez; one great-grandson, Nicholas Carter-Nowicki.
