Barbara Hickerson

A graveside service for Barbara Jo Hickerson, age 93, of Amarillo, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery in Frederick, Oklahoma.

She passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at her home in Amarillo, Texas.

Burial is under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick, Oklahoma.

Barabara Jo Hickerson was born on August 26, 1932, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Joel A. and Velma Hazel (Starcher) Splawn Nicklas. She attended Consolidated #11 Victory Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1950. Barbara was united in marriage to Edwin Leroy Hickerson on May 19, 1950, in Davidson, Oklahoma. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Lorenzo State Bank in Lorenzo, Texas, until they moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, where she worked for the American Bank & Trust where she retired as an operation officer. She was a member of the Arden Road Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas.

She is survived by her husband: Leroy Hickerson of the home; one son: Stanley Leroy Hickerson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one daughter: Susan Ruth Pinkert and her husband Phil of Amarillo, Texas; three grandchildren: Erin Carrier, Jonathan Chayse Hickerson and wife Kira, and Ryan Pinkert; two great-grandchildren: Benjamin Reese Carrier and Joshua Owen Carrier.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Calvin Leon Splawn and James Richard Nicklas; and one sister: Bess Hughes.
