Word has been received of the death of former Tipton resident, Billy Gerdes Gray, age 95, of Altus, Oklahoma. No service is scheduled. Mr. Gray passed away on Monday morning, June 22, 2020, at Tamarack Assisted Living in Altus.
Billy Gerdes Gray was born on April 12, 1925 in Austin, Texas to Prosper Bartlett and Bessie Ruth (Miller) Gray. He attended Austin Public School graduating from Austin High School with the Class of 1945. Billy attended University of Texas for two years. He was in the United State Air Force during WWII. Billy was united in marriage to Verna Deanne Oates on September 8, 1946, in Austin, Texas. He worked for Walker Tire Co. in Austin, Texas. After moving to Tipton, he worked as a dietitian and cafeteria manager at the Tipton Children's Home until his retirement in 1990. Both Billy and Verna had servant's hearts, they loved God, their church and their family.
He is survived by his two sons, Mike Gray and his wife Mary of Clovis, New Mexico and Tim Gray and his wife Kathy of Tipton, Oklahoma; one daughter, Debbie Waugh and her husband James of Mustang, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Melanie Snodgrass and husband Lonnie of Marlow, Oklahoma, Josh Gray and his wife Michelle of Lavon, Texas, Hannah Gray-Murray and her husband Chad of Dallas, Texas, Hailey Weaver and her husband Jacob of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mitchell Gray and his wife KiKi of Clovis, New Mexico, Meggan Bickerstaff and her husband Jeramiah of Chandler, Oklahoma, Derek Waugh and his wife Courtney of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Logan Waugh and his wife Hallie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, P.B. & Bessie Gray; his wife, Verna Gray; one sister, Clarine DeGress; and one grandson, Logan Gray.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Tipton Children's Home in memory of Billy Gray.
