Graveside service for Carolyn Wright Lovejoy, age 80, of Edmond will be at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, May 25, 2015 at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery with Gary Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Carolyn received her new mind, body and spirit in heaven on May 20th, 2015, after gracefully battling Alzheimer's disease for 10 years. Carolyn (Wright) Lovejoy was born to J.B. and Ladema (Lewis) Wright on September 3, 1934 in Frederick, Oklahoma. She had two sisters whom she adored, an older sister Laquita and a younger sister Betty. Carolyn attended Wilson Consolidated #2 School for 12 years where she graduated Salutatorian of her class in 1952. She was a star forward on the basketball team which caught the eye of Ray Lovejoy from Tipton. He was so impressed with her skills and cute smile that he asked her if he could take her home from the movie on her 15th birthday. To which she responded, " I will have to ask my mother." She was allowed to ride home with Ray that night and after a goodnight kiss, a match made in heaven was created that resulted in marriage two and a half years later on May 25, 1952. For 63 years, Ray and Carolyn have been an example to family, friends, and even strangers of what a Godly marriage should look like. Carolyn was a great seamstress, an amazing cook, a gracious hostess, and an accurate book keeper for the family business Ray Lovejoy Real Estate. She loved the Lord with all her heart and it was evident in her service to the church where she continually opened her home to the visiting preachers that came to 3rd and Central Church of Christ in Lovington, New Mexico. She faithfully assisted Ray in his service as an elder for 30 years. Her guests always received a home cooked meal and a comfortable place to sleep. Carolyn also taught multiple Bible classes which resulted in a deep knowledge of the scriptures. She was generous with her love, skills, and resources to those who were in need. Carolyn had many roles in life, but the roles she cherished the most were being a Christian, sharing her faith with others, being Ray's wife and Barry and Judy's mother. She loved being "Nanny" to her grandchildren Dan, Jodie, Conrad, Meagan and Lee; and her great grand children Elijah, Isaiah, and Raz. She also became "Nanny" to many college students at Oklahoma Christian University. She is survived by her husband Ray of the home; her son, Barry Lovejoy and his wife Kathi of Lovington, New Mexico, her daughter, Judy Branch and her husband Alfred of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, Laquita Stone; her five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many other loving relatives. She also leaves behind numerous friends from her homes in Lovington, New Mexico; Lubbock, Texas; and Edmond, Oklahoma. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her younger sister Betty, and a great-grandson Damon Ray. Carolyn's life will be celebrated in a memorial service at Memorial Road Church of Christ in Edmond, Oklahoma on Tuesday, May 26th, at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the Ray and Carolyn Lovejoy Students in Crisis Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma Christian University, PO Box 11000, Oklahoma City, OK 73136-1100.
