Graveside service for former Frederick resident Clarence E. Coombs age 81, of Mesa, Arizona will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 6, 2017, at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home.  Mr. Coombs passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017, in Mesa, Arizona.

Clarence Elvie "Sonny Boy" Coombs was born August 17, 1936, in Frederick, Oklahoma to Clarence Taswell and Dessie Irene (Waters) Coombs. He attended Frederick Public Schools.  He started working as a paper boy for the Frederick Leader when he was eleven years old.  He delivered papers for the Leader until he joined the United States Navy.  After he was honorably discharged he went to work for Civil Service at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City.  He and Theda Joy Coombs were united in marriage at Las Vegas, Nevada.  He later transferred to William Air Force Base in Mesa, Arizona where he retired. Mrs. Coombs preceded him in death on May 17, 2016.

He is survived by two sons, David Coombs of Tucson, Arizona and Michael Coombs of Ohio; three sisters, Mary Wanzer of Newalla, Oklahoma, Loretta Holt of Altus, Oklahoma and Mickie Waldron of Altus, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Melissa Coombs and Charlotte Coombs; one great-granddaughter, Abygail Monroe and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Clarence and Dessie Coombs; one son, William "Billy" Coombs; and his wife, Theda Joy Coombs.
