Funeral Service for Cletis L. Scott, age 97, will be Monday May 22, 2017, at the Caprock Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Scott passed away Wednesday evening, May 17,2017, in Lawton, Oklahoma.
The youngest child of James Monroe Scott and Martha Amanda Branch, Cletis was born in Calera, Oklahoma, in 1920. He enlisted in the Army with one of his older brothers in 1940 and was honorable discharged in 1944 with the rank of S/Sgt. While serving in WWII, he was a member of the 45th Division, 180th Infantry, 2nd Battalion, Company E, and was entitled to wear the EAMET service ribbon. He married Geraldine Farr in October, 1950, at Central Baptist Church in Amarillo.
In May, 1958, he graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity from Bible Baptist Seminary in Arlington, Texas. He then pastored churches in Texas and Kansas. Upon his retirement, he and Gerry returned to Amarillo and he kept busy serving in any capacity needed at Caprock Baptist Church. Upon Gerry's death in 2006, he moved to Frederick to be near his daughter and son-in-law. During his last year, he resided at the Lawton/Ft. Sill Veterans Center. He had a quite demeanor and gentle spirit. He was much loved and respected by those who had the privilege to know him.
He is survived by his daughter Suzanne and her husband, Clint Wynn of Frederick. Numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends: the Cope's, the Dickson's, and Robertson's of Frederick; and his Caprock church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Gerry, seven brothers, and three sisters.
