He was a member of First Baptist Missionary Church. He was educated in Frederick Public Schools, where he enjoyed playing football, soccer, and baseball! He attended Langston University and majored in Business. Courtney also loved playing golf and chatting it up with fellow players.

Courtney's favorite job was with a company called Jet East at Love Field in Dallas. He worked as a Linemen supporting all ground operations for inbound and outbound private jets, flight crews and passengers. Other career paths were with Bar-S and as a construction worker.

Courtney was hardworking and had a strong sense of responsibility. He was big on knowledge and wisdom, he gained from the information he sought desperately to become apprised. He loved debating and challenging conversations about religious convictions and beliefs. He enjoyed his life.

He loved pastries more than anything! Courtney loved his family and friends. One of his fondest memories was his Grandmother Bennie teaching him the speech, "I Have a Dream". Courtney's influence on the younger generation of our family and his love for them was very profound. Whether his encouragement to "Keep their head up", or his inspiration, that will be felt today and thereafter; especially among our younger family members, and even his friends who resonate with his powerful words of wisdom, courage, and love for them.

He has always had the ability to add youthfulness and sparkle to his relationships. Courtney leaves an indelible mark and a legacy of love for all of us. We will miss him greatly!

Courtney leaves to cherish his memory his son, Eyan Cruz; two grandsons, Eyan, Jr. and E'syan; his mother, Phyllis Mitchell-Carter; one sister, Farah Mitchell; four brother, Justin Mitchell, Gary Young, Gerald Young, and Jermaine Young; two uncles, George Mitchell and Jonathan Mitchell; and three aunt, Vanessa Mitchell, JoAnn Harris, and Loretta Jones; three extended siblings, Kendra Lott, George Mitchell, Jr., and Nekia Mitchell; three nieces, Kennedi, Tanisha and Anessa; two nephews, Mysta and Torrel; five first cousins, Corey Wilson, Greg Wilson, Jr., Wayne Miller, Sasha Mitchell, Sam Mitchell, III,; seven second cousins, Ronisha, Kenisha, Trinite, Benjamin, Tristian, Melani and Asher; and a host of other cousins, family members, and many friends. We love you all!
