Funeral service for former Frederick resident, Darlene Witt Langston, age 87, of Keller, Texas will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 19, 2021, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lisa Beavers officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick, Oklahoma. Mrs. Langston passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 12, 2021, in Keller, Texas.
Darlene (Witt) Langston was born October 6, 1933, in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Fred Duncan and Dorothy Irene (Williams) Witt. She was a graduate of Frederick High School where she was elected homecoming queen, a majorette and member/officer of Vagabonds. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Oklahoma State University where she was a member and social chair of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was president of Theta Sigma Phi, a woman's professional journalism fraternity, and a celebrated Majorette in the OSU Marching Band. Darlene even made the cover of Look Magazine. She also served as chairman of the student union activities board public relations community, and a member of the varsity review committee Tau Beta Sigma and the women's athletic ASSP.
Oklahoma State University is where Darlene met her future husband, Lester "Sam" Langston. They were married in Frederick, Oklahoma on September 20, 1958. After marriage they moved around quite a bit due to Sam's Air Force career. They moved to Anchorage, Alaska where Darlene worked for KENI TV as Weather Girl. In Anchorage, they had their first son Douglas on September 24, 1961. From there they moved to Madrid, Spain and had their second son Wade Langston on April 24. 1967. They lived in Spain for four years before settling in San Antonio, Texas where Darlene lived for most of her life.
Darlene loved dogs, crafting, gardening, and collecting items everywhere from locally to her many exotic travels.
Darlene is survived by her two sons, Douglas Witt Langston and his wife Jamie of Keller, Texas and Wade Preston Langston and his wife Ronda of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three grandchildren Lauren Lanier Langston and her fiancé Casey McGovern of Fort Worth, Texas, Ann Katherine Langston of Brooklyn, New York and Collin Joseph Langston of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one sister, Sara Sue Witt Rothrock and husband Tom of Spring, Texas; and two nieces Amanda Rothrock of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Katherine Wilson and husband Dray of Spring, Texas.
Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Dorothy Witt; and her husband of 37 years Lester "Sam" Langston.
Memorial donations may be made to the Bracken United Methodist Church, 20377 FM 2252, San Antonio, TX 78266, in loving memory of Darlene Langston.
