Terry Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mrs. Mitchell passed away on Friday, April 10, 2020, in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Uetta Darlene "Sugar" Mitchell was born September 6, 1937, in Bowie, Texas to Virgil and Lorena (Hachtel) Edwards. Her early years of life and education was in Oklaunion, Texas. The family moved to California where she attended San Jacinto and Hemet Public Schools. They returned to Oklahoma and made their home in Frederick, where she met her soulmate, Dale Mitchell. They were united in marriage October 23, 1954 in Vernon, Texas.

Sugar gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized at the age of six. At the age of thirty she rededicated her life and has continued to serve her Savior her entire life. She was a member of the Full Gospel Assembly of God and has attended the Lighthouse Cathedral in Frederick. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed most sports and was an avid OU fan, with baseball being her favorite sport. Sugar was a person who could adapt to any situation and all types of people. She was always interested in others and what she could do to make their life better.

Sugar lived her life to not be judgmental of others; she loved people, and like the song, "He looked Beyond my Faults and Saw my Need" – that is what she did – she looked beyond their faults and loved them.  She lived her life for God and her family, they were the most important thing to her. Her thoughts were always preparing for eternity and that glad reunion day.

Sugar was gifted with a beautiful voice and could sing any type of song.  She preferred gospel music, but just for amusement or enjoyment she would yodel.

At the age of fifteen, she entered and won a national music talent contest. The prize was a contract to make a record and travel with a top country music group, The Bill Mack Band; an American country singer, songwriter, and radio host for The Country Road Show , whose best-known song "Blue" which was sung by LeAnn Rimes and became one of her biggest hits.  But after much deliberation and cautious consideration, she declined the award because of touring around with a band at such a tender young age.

She and Dale had no children of their own, but they were actively involved with the youth in their church.  They loved all the nieces and nephews like they were their own.

She is survived by one brother, Rev. Terry Edwards and his wife Janice of Bethany, Oklahoma; one sister, Teresa Rhodes of Frederick, Oklahoma; two sisters-in-law, Rita Edwards of Vernon, Texas and Frances Edwards of Yale, Oklahoma; her nieces and nephews, Kathy Sullins, Bubba Edwards, Pam Nava, LaGrande Edwards II, Freddie Rhodes II, Darla Smith, Lisa Ryals, Rodney Edwards, Martin Edwards, Sherri Hunt, Ricky Edwards, Kenny Edwards; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, other family members and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Lorena Edwards; her husband, Dale Mitchell; four brothers, Alvie Edwards, LaGrande Edwards, Gayle Edwards and Carroll Edwards; one brother-in-law, Freddie Rhodes; three sisters-in-law, Stanlene Edwards, Josie Edwards and Carolyn Edwards; two nephews, Jerry Edwards and Kevin Edwards; two great nephews, Craig Edwards and Cody Allen Edwards.
