David Wayne Johnson

Funeral service for David Wayne Johnson, age 74, of Wichita Falls, Texas, formerly of Frederick, Oklahoma, will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Les Banks officiating. Burial will follow at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick, Oklahoma. Mr. Johnson passed away Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Hospice of Wichita Falls in Wichita Falls, Texas.

David was born August 1, 1952, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Charles and Lois “Big Mamma” (Good) Johnson. He grew up in Frederick and attended Frederick Public Schools, graduating from Frederick High School with the Class of 1970. On April 28, 1982, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Marie Sheffield in Frederick, Oklahoma. David was employed with IHR out of Oklahoma City where he was Director of Security for over twenty years. Upon moving back to Frederick, he worked for the Davidson Coop where he helped operate the gin and service station. After leaving the coop he worked at multiple Sonics in Texas and Oklahoma. He was a natural when it came to country dancing and enjoyed going hunting, especially for deer. David competed in several arm-wrestling tournaments without a single defeat! Above all else, his greatest joy was his family.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn; four children: David Johnson, Jr. of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Shelly Seymour and her husband James of Phoenix, Arizona, Chris McCloud Johnson and wife Tonya of Carnegie, Oklahoma, and Shelly Sorrells of Clinton, Oklahoma; seven siblings: Charles Johnson and wife Donna of Vernon, Texas, Michael “Lizard” Johnson of Wichita Falls, Texas, Judy Jared of Arkansas, Danny Johnson and wife Janna of Wichita Falls, Texas, Tammy Johnson of Arkansas, Donnie Johnson of Frederick, Oklahoma, and Ronnie Johnson of Wichita Falls, Texas; ten grandchildren: Brooke, Shane, Paige, James, Mariah, Dylan, Destiny, Alivia, Austin and Dawson; numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents: Charlie and Lois Johnson.
