Celebration of Life for former Tipton resident, Donna Walker Smith, age 89, of Amarillo, Texas will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 21, 2023, at the First Baptist Church, 300 E. Davis Ave., Tipton, Oklahoma, with Rev. Les Banks officiating. Private family inurnment will be in the Grandfield Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith passed away Saturday, April 1, 2023, in Amarillo, Texas.
Donna Yuvonne (Rombold) Walker Smith was born on January 15, 1934, to Rufus Edgar and Eddie May (Downer) Rombold. She attended school in Grandfield, Oklahoma. After high school, she attended Western Oklahoma State College in Altus, Oklahoma where she received her associate degree in 1971, she then received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1973, where she received the Entre Nous Award English. Donna received her master's degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma in 1976. Donna taught at Altus High School from 1973 to 1997, and later for Wayland Baptist University through the Altus Air Force Base. She also taught at Western Oklahoma State College in Altus, Oklahoma. Donna was united in marriage to William Elijah "Bill" Walker, Jr. on December 23, 1950, in Burkburnett, Texas. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1981. She was then married to A.K. Smith on October 28, 1983, in Altus, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on October 13, 2000.
Donna was the Newsletter Editor for Associate Professors of Oklahoma Educators in Norman, Oklahoma since 1995. She was the area correspondent for the Wichita Falls Times Record News since 2002. Donna was a freelance writer in Oklahoma since 1993. She was on the Board of Directors for Associate Professors of Oklahoma Educators in Norman, Oklahoma from 1995 to 2002. Donna was published in Guidepost, The Gospel Herald, the Sunday School Times, and Chicken Soup for the Soul. She published an online magazine, Victory Herald, and helped to spotlight devotionals written by several Christian authors. Donna was listed as a notable writer and educator by Marquis Who's Who. She was very active in her church where she taught Sunday school, vacation bible school, Training Union, Sunbeams, and GA's, along with planning many sweetheart banquets during her 63 years of service to her church.
She is survived by three daughters, Christie Lovejoy and her husband Lanny of Amarillo, Texas, Misty Walker of Amarillo, Texas, and Dayna Boman and her husband Randy of Mountain Park, Oklahoma; one son, Bill David Walker and his wife Connie of Enid, Oklahoma; one daughter-in-law, Vickie Smith of Chickasha, Oklahoma; one sister, Carole Wright of Granbury, Texas; ten grandchildren, Deidra Tomasino and her husband Johnny of Rockwall, Texas, Adam Lovejoy of Hutto, Texas, Leander Walker and his wife Randilyn of Yukon, Oklahoma, Davin Walker and his wife Sheena of Altus, Oklahoma, Phillip MeGown and his wife Jaime of Wrightsville, Pennsylvania, Derek Boman and his wife Megan of Lubbock, Texas, Blake Boman and his wife Diana of Lubbock, Texas, Mary Beth Boman of Lubbock, Texas, Allison Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Matthew Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Her honorary family, Judy-Bread Pinson McClare, Brenda Ryan, Jessica Wilson, Dale "The Handsome Beast" Wilson, Barbara Cawthorne, and Cong Nguyen.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus Edgar and Eddie May Rombold; two sisters, Sheila Samples and Linda Hall; her husbands, Bill Walker and Pete Smith; and two stepsons, Johnny Smith and Dale Smith.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hidden Happiness Care Home, 1 Pinecrest Drive, Amarillo, TX 79124 in memory of Donna Yuvonne (Rombold) Walker Smith.
