Memorial service for Edward Wayne Kent age 82, of Frederick, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 4, 2017, at the First Baptist Church, 201 E. Grand, Frederick, Oklahoma. Mr. Kent lived a long and honorable life, marked by his unwavering faith and dedication to his wife, Shirley. He went to be with his Lord while surrounded by friends and family in Santa Fe, New Mexico on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, while celebrating the return of his most cherished holiday, Thanksgiving.
Edward Wayne Kent was born on February 3, 1935, in Frederick, Oklahoma to Charles Leasure and Gladys Lee (Cason) Kent. He attended Frederick Public School, graduating from Frederick High School in 1952. He and Shirley Godfrey were united in marriage, and had celebrated 62 years of marriage. Wayne was a proud, lifelong resident of Frederick where he spent most of his days tending to his crops and cattle. He nearly every day made a stop at the local coffee shop to visit with his friends. His Saturdays were spent rooting for the University of Oklahoma Sooners; and on Sunday you would find him singing along at the First Baptist Church, where he was an active and contributing member.
Wayne is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Shirley; a daughter and son-in-law, Kayla and Brian Roughton; a sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Martin Hullender; a granddaughter, Devan Roughton; a grandson, Brian Roughton, Jr. and his wife Stephanie; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Charlsa Gant and Karen Gilliland.
