Obituary

Funeral service for Evelyn Josie "Sis" Brown age 80 of Wichita Falls, Texas will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick, Oklahoma with Elder Randy Sullenger officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mrs. Brown passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Evelyn Josie (Mathis) Brown was born June 15, 1936, east of Davidson, Oklahoma in the Victory Community to Arthur Samuel and Nellie (Ballard) Mathis. She attended Victory Consolidated Number 11 School. On June 22, 1956, she was united in marriage to Dale Eugene Brown in Frederick, Oklahoma. After their marriage, she and Dale lived in Frederick for several years before moving to Wichita Falls, Texas. They moved to Montgomery, Alabama in 1974, where she worked as a day care worker before taking care of her mother in her home. After Dale's retirement in 1991, they returned to Wichita Falls where they made their home. She was a member of the Fairway Baptist Church in Wichita Falls.

She is survived by her son, Gregory Brown of Point Clear, Alabama; two brothers, Jim Mathis of Klamath Falls, Oregon and Doug Mathis and his wife Sybil of Wichita Falls, TX; two sister, Iva Lee Duncan and her husband Guy of Marshall, AR and Sue Sisson and her husband David of Waurika, OK; two sisters-in-law, Janet Mathis of Frederick, OK and Gladys Mathis of Okmulgee, OK; four grandchildren, Eden Brown Kentner, Justin Brown, Christin Brown Erwin and her husband Michael and Timothy Brown; five great-grandchildren, Addison Brown, Caleb, Jordan and Jaelyn Harris and Chelsea Brown; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale Brown who preceded her in death on April 29, 2012; one son, Chris Brown; four brothers, Orvan, Everett, Butch "Terrel" and Bill Mathis; one sister, Venita "Nita" Mathis; and twin brother and sister who died in infancy, Jackie and Janett Mathis.
