Obituary

Graveside service for former Frederick resident, Evelyn Hawkins, age 94, of Ada, Oklahoma will be at 12:00 p.m., Saturday April 6, 2019, at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery. Inurnment will follow under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mrs. Hawkins passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the Ada Care Center in Ada, Oklahoma.

Clara Evelyn (Brown) Hawkins who was affectionally known by some as "Doot", short for Doodle Bug, was born on February 19, 1925, in Windom, Texas to Ben and Lela (Kilburn) Brown. She attended Windom Public Schools where she lettered in basketball and was an outstanding player.   She graduated from Windom High School in 1942, as salutatorian of her senior class. She later attended Draughons Business College. On August 14, 1948, she was united in marriage to Troy Fane Hawkins in Paris, Texas. He preceded in death on January 15, 1991. Evelyn was a member of the First Christian Church of Frederick where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School to preschoolers. She was active in the Women's Missionary Group and was a member of the kitchen committee, serving many fellowship and funeral dinners. Evelyn had worked at Gunn Brothers Stamp Store, S&H Green Stamp Store, Curtis Men's Wear, Frederick Cablevision and Crawford Abstract where she retired after 20 years of service. She was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing for the public. She loved to refinish furniture and had refinished nearly every piece of furniture in her home. Evelyn was well known for her beautiful back yard. She loved flowers and enjoyed sharing her daisies.

She is survived by one son, Michael Hawkins of Lawton, Oklahoma; one daughter, Kathy Johnson and her husband Richy of Ada, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Jaeli Palmer and her husband Chad and Jorri Marion and her husband Bodie all of Ada, Oklahoma; two great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Joe Hawkins of Tyler, Texas; and several nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fane Hawkins; her parents, Lela and Ben Brown; and one sister, Mutt Hammack and her husband Jake.
