Celebration of Life for Farris Laverne "Mac" McKinley age 90, of Katy, Texas will be at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel, 921 W. Gladstone Ave., Frederick, Oklahoma, with Rev. Karen Adams and Rev. Nathan Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. McKinley passed away Saturday, September 21, 2019, at his home in Katy, Texas.
Farris Laverne "Mac" McKinley was born December 7, 1928, on the family homeplace in Frederick Oklahoma, to William Earl and Louise (Farris) McKinley. He attended Tipton Public School, graduating from Tipton High School in 1945. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Army Air Corp right out of high school. He later attended Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater, where he received an Architectural Engineer Degree in 1954. Mac worked as an architectural engineer. He began working at Skelly Oil Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma and later worked for, and then became a partner with Coston, Frankfurt, Short, & McKinley Architectural Firm in Oklahoma City. Mac designed the first Pizza Hut Building in Wichita, Kansas. He was an engineer on numerous projects in New York, California, Hawaii, Indiana, Florida, Puerto Rico and many other locations; retiring in 2000, at the age of 72 years old. He spent his last several years of life living in Houston, Texas near his only sister Betty Joyce McKinley Adams and family. Mac was a modest, gentle man and served and was respected by many friends and family members. He was a confirmed bachelor who had never married. In addition to professional pursuits, he loved God, music, literature, the arts and sports. He served for several decades as the president of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity.
He is survived by one sister, Betty Adams and her husband Olan of Katy, Texas; two nephews, William David Adams and his wife Judy of Houston, Texas, and Michial Adams and his wife Toni of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one niece, Karen Adams of Houston, Texas; one great-nephew, Nathan Adams and his wife Meredith of Abilene, Texas; two great-nieces, Lauren Lanford and her husband Joey of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and Brit Adams of Houston, Texas; two great-great-nieces, Reese and Quin Lanford of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and several cousins and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Louise McKinley.
