Funeral service for Floyd J. Travis, age 83, of Davidson, Oklahoma, will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Les Banks officiating. Burial will follow in the Davidson Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Travis passed away Saturday, December 7, 2019, at his home in Davidson.
Floyd Junior Travis was born November 24, 1936, in Lindsay, Oklahoma to Alvis and Emily Guthrie Bell (Hook) Travis. He attended school in Duke, Elmore City and Oklaunion. In 1956, Floyd enlisted in the United States Army and served until he was honorably discharged in 1958. On May 24, 1959, he and Laquetta Ann Hickerson were united in marriage in Frederick, Oklahoma. Floyd was a self-employed carpenter for over 60 years. He was a diligent, hardworking man whose handshake was his bond. His value of giving his customer a full day's work is a lost art in todays world. He enjoyed life to the fullest; his greatest passion was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Floyd was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed mowing his little ladies' yards and was an avid reader. He loved country music and he and Laquetta enjoyed dancing in later years. Floyd was a member of the First Baptist Church of Davidson, where he served as a Deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Laquetta Travis of the home; three daughters, Tammie Muirhead and her husband Mike of Gordon, Texas, Rhonda Oxford and her husband Jay of Frederick, Oklahoma, and Lori Bland and her husband Tony of Burkburnett, Texas; one sister, Ophelia Wheeler of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Carpenter and her husband James, Angela Absolom and her husband Russell, Tony Bland, Jr. and his wife Megan, Summer Harrison and her husband Bryan, Tyler Oxford and his wife Lacey, Tanner Oxford, Lauren Moore and her husband Jordan, and Paige Rask and her husband Aaron; fourteen great-grandchildren, Emily and Caden Carpenter, Collin and Macie Absolom, Vivienne Bland, Paisley, Presley, Patton and Pierson Harrison, Kent and Wade Oxford, Norah and Jude Moore, and Huntley Rask; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, A.J. Travis; and three sisters, Laveta Vosburgh, Reta Oxley, and Virginia Rodgers.
