Obituary

George Junior Stevens age 69, of Tipton, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020, at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma.  There will be no service.  The family invites you to go online and sign the guest register, enjoy the video, and leave a memory to Beth and the children.

George Junior Stevens was born March 14, 1951, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to George Joseph and Frankie LaVerne (Anderson) Stevens.  He attended Del Norte High School in Albuquerque, graduating with the Class of 1969.  He attended New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs on a Track Scholarship, where he lettered in Shot Put and Javelin.  He later attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater on a Track Scholarship where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.  On February 19, 1977, he and Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Elsener were united in marriage at the First United Methodist Church in Tipton, Oklahoma.  George worked as a Transport Specialist for the United States Air Force, and taught Driver Education for Southwest Driving School in Altus.

George loved nature, whether it was in the mountains, at the ocean, on the farm messing with the cattle, or tinkering with the tractor or his truck. He enjoyed hunting, scuba diving, skiing, storm chasing, and spending time on his ham radio.  He was an avid cook and enjoyed growing his own hot peppers.  He was a salsa connoisseur.  He enjoyed all sporting events and loved coaching track and field.  He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Beth Steven of the home; his children, Andrea Whitchurch and her husband Christopher of College Station, Texas, Wes Stevens of Tipton, Oklahoma and Evan Stevens and his wife Jennifer of Tipton, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Kale Whitchurch, Kaleb Whitchurch, Shelby Stevens, Dayton Stevens, Reed Stevens, Jase Stevens and Grant Stevens; two sisters, Earleen Hanes and her husband Ron of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Joleen Stevens of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Aine Elsener Beaver, Pennsylvania and Joe and Ellen Elsener of Dallas, Texas; and his nephews and niece, Jason Stevens, Ryan Hanes, Tom Elsener and his wife Lauren, Susie Bailey and her husband Brian, and Jim Elsener.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity in memory of George Junior Stevens.
