Graveside service for Herman Mathew "Buck" Guthrie age 80, of Cache, Oklahoma will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 13. 2022, at the Cache Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Randall officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Cache Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Guthrie passed away Thursday, December 8, 2022, at his daughter's home in Cache.
Herman was born to Ray and Rose Guthrie in Colfax, Wisconsin. He grew up on a farm in a very small town. He attended school at Holy Ghost Catholic School and later attended public school. He joined the Army in 1959, he was a Marksman and a Sharpshooter, who was top of his class in Fort Leonard Wood, Special Operations Communications. He was soon deployed to Paris, France where he stayed on standby, for the Vietnam War. He was later transferred to Fort Sill and was honorably discharged, He and Barbara Brooking were married on May 14, 1962, and celebrated 57 wedding anniversaries together. He choose Cache to raise a family where they had three children. Herman went back later to obtain his GED. He was employed by Town and Country Mobile Homes, and later Mid America Lumber Company. For 41 years he drove a truck cross country. He was honored as "driver of the year" many times. He was employed by Caddell Transit, Miller Transportation, Alfred Trucking out of Goodyear, and after retirement, he was employed by Home Depot for the next seven years, where he would retire again. Buck enjoyed spending time with his family most of all. He also enjoyed fishing, mechanic work, and loved spending countless hours in the garage tinkering. He built his home, he helped his daughter and son-in-law build theirs. He was a welder, a carpenter, a masonry, an electrician, a plumber, a concrete finisher, and a gardener. He was a Master of all trades. He took pride in teaching his children, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren and passing on knowledge of the trades he knew. He loved spending time in his garden and helping others and did we mention he loved to fish. He never asked for anything in return from anyone anywhere. He was such a kind and giving man.
Buck was preceded in death by his mother and father, Rose and Ray Guthrie, his wife, Barbara (Brooking) Guthrie; one brother Arnold, and four sisters, Marcella, Shirley, Dorothy, and Mary.
He is survived by one sister, Bernice Jerome of Wisconsin, three children; Ned Guthrie and wife Reana, Gina Weller, and Barbi Watts and husband Dale; nine grandchildren: Tazmyra Bristow, James Cato, Reona Cato, Aubrey Householder, Christeena Ferguson, Micheal Rosenberger, Matthew Reilly, Van Nessa Ball, Emerald Watts. He had seventeen grandchildren, Matthew, Olivia, Stein, Braxton, Weston, John, Kaylee, Madyson, Mia, Soraya, Alexis, Chole, Adalide, Aiden, Nickolas, Eathan, and Austin. He had numerous nieces and nephews and friends, especially his "Trading Post Gang" This great man is truly "One Of The Good Ones". He will be missed….Until we fish again…
