Obituary

Hershel W. Moore, age 95, of Faxon, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday morning, December 12, 2023, at the Ayers Nursing Center in Snyder, Oklahoma, with his family at his bedside.   No services are planned at this time.

Hershel William "Bill" Moore was born on September 5, 1928, in Roosevelt, Oklahoma, to Henry Granville and Ethel Irene (Griggs) Moore.  He received his education through Roosevelt Public Schools.  In 1950, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  He didn't have to spend time in Korea, but he was stationed at Camp Hale in Leadville, Colorada.  Camp Hale was established to train soldiers for winter mountainous warfare because of the area's extreme winter weather, altitude, and tough terrain.  He was honorably discharged as a Corporal.

Hershel returned to Oklahoma and married Lois Henry on September 17, 1955, in Lawton, Oklahoma.  Shortly after that, Hershel was hired for Civil Service at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.  He retired in 1985 as an electronic engineer after thirty-one years of service.

Bill and Lois made their home in Elgin, Oklahoma, for eighteen years. They bought some land south of Lawton near the Faxon community, and Bill designed and built their home.  He loved to spend time with his family.  He also loved to play golf, and he was a very good player!  Golf was a family affair.  His children played, and he also taught all the grandchildren to play.  He spent most of his time playing on his self-made nine-hole golf course that he designed and built on his land.  In his latter years, he enjoyed watching westerns on TV.  Bill also loved the outdoors, just sitting under his shade trees.

He is survived by his wife Lois, of the home, Faxon, Oklahoma; his son, Mike Moore of Faxon, Oklahoma; his daughter, Pam Wiggins and her husband Mike of Lawton, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Dustin Wyatt and his wife Cami of Cache, Oklahoma, Darren Wyatt and his wife Becca of Newcastle, Oklahoma, and Misty Wyatt of Lawton, Oklahoma; and his great-grandchildren, Dakota Reed, Jayden Wyatt, Jaggar Wyatt, and Janika Wyatt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Granville and Ethel Irene Moore; his brothers and sisters, Norman, Herman, Wayne, Travis, Jerry, and Shirley Myers.
