Graveside Memorial Service for J. Frank Bumpas, age 92, of Frederick, Oklahoma will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. Bumpas passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015, at the English Village Manor in Altus. J. Frank Bumpas was born November 15, 1922 in Altus, Oklahoma to Jay Leonard and Cathryn (Brewer) Bumpas. He attended Hollis, Tipton and Frederick Public Schools, graduating from Frederick High School in 1939. He later attended Oklahoma University School of Pharmacy. On October 31, 1943, he and Nora Marie Hester were united in marriage in Frederick. After he received his pharmacy degree in 1944, he and Marie bought the drugstores in Carnegie and Cement. In 1955, they returned to Frederick and purchased the family business, Bumpas Drug, from his father. J. Frank later received his Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree and was presently the only pharmacist in the State of Oklahoma that held a pharmacy license for 70 years. They owned and operated Bumpas Drug and Gifts for 37 years. He and Marie retired in 1992, closing the last downtown drugstore in Frederick. He was a Lifetime Master of Bridge and he and Marie flew to many states and different countries to play. He was a private pilot and enjoyed flying nearly every evening after work and weekends. Marie preceded him in death on June 28, 2007. He was a former member of the Frederick Golf and Country Club. He is survived by one daughter, Lana Bumpas Stone of Frederick, Oklahoma; two sons, Lance Bumpas of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Lane Bumpas of Frederick, Oklahoma; and one granddaughter, Alison Marie Bumpas of Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Cathryn Bumpas; his wife, Marie Hester Bumpas; and his in-laws, Cooksey and Hope Hester. Jackson Funeral Home 923 W.
