Obituary

Memorial service for former Davidson resident, J. B. Crowell, age 88, of Lawton will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Davidson, Oklahoma with Rev. Les Banks officiating. Private family burial will precede the service in the Davidson Cemetery. Mr. Crowell passed away on March 23, 2019 at McMahon-Tomlinson Nursing Center in Lawton.
James Blackburn Crowell was born on March 24, 1930 in Davidson, Oklahoma to Fred Thomas and Eska (Etter) Crowell. He attended Davidson Public School and graduated from Davidson High School in 1948. He loved sports and while in school he lettered in all sports. He also played American Legion Baseball. J.B. was united in marriage to the love of his life Joy Etta Taylor on September 13, 1950 in rural Davidson. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, where he was stationed in Germany. He owned and operated Crowell Exxon and Wrecker Service in Wichita Falls, Texas from 1961 until 1976. After selling his business, he and Joy returned back to their hometown of Davidson. J.B. and Joy then started their many adventures traveling throughout the country in their RV.  J.B. was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of his world. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Wichita Falls, Texas and was a 32nd degree Mason. J. B. was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Davidson. He lived the last several years at Tamarack Assisted Living in Altus and greatly enjoyed the staff and his time there.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Crowell; two daughters, Connie Tatum & her husband Jim and Gayle White and her husband Joe D. of Frederick; grandchildren, Dr. James Tatum and his wife Dr. Veronica Tatum, Bridger Tatum and wife Jenny, Jessica Lewis and husband Justin, Whitney Bell and husband Brandon and Austin White and fiancé Allie Wilson; great-grandchildren, Harper and Cole Tatum, Emily and Dylan Tatum, Parker Lewis, and Barrett and Briar Bell; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Carlene Parris, Jackie Taylor, Dorothy Hendrix, Sue and Buddy Howe; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bobby Crowell; three brothers-in-law, Buck Parris, Pete Taylor and Jim Hendrix.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Davidson, Davidson Cemetery Fund or the Frederick School Enrichment Foundation in memory of J.B. Crowell.
