Graveside service with Masonic rites for former Grandfield resident James Elton Matthew age 63, of Colorado City, Texas will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 20, 2015, at the Hollister Cemetery with Rev. Les Banks officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Matthew passed away Monday, November 16, 2015 in Mimbres, New Mexico. James Elton Matthew was born April 19, 1952, in Clinton, Oklahoma to Lee Marvin and Rosie Lee (Tassey) Matthew. He attended Asher Public School, graduating from Asher High School in 1970. He served from 1971 to 1974 in the United States Army as a Specialist 4. On June 27, 1975, he and Loreta Fay Pearson were united in marriage at Vernon, Texas. He worked as a Lieutenant Correction Officer for the James V. Allred Unit in Wichita Falls, Texas for 25 years, retiring in 2009. He was a member of the Grandfield Masonic Lodge #378 and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Master Mason. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting. He is survived by his wife Loreta Matthew of the home; one son, David Matthew of San Angelo, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Mike Barlow of Centennial, Colorado; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Valton Gambill of Terral, Oklahoma and Esther and Larry Grimes of Gilmer, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Rosie Matthew; and one sister, Sandra Kay Kelley.
