Funeral service for James Stephen "Steve" Retorick age 78, Lawton, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at the First Baptist Church, Tipton, Oklahoma with Rev. Les Banks officiating. Burial with follow with full military honors at 1:00 p.m., in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma. Service are under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Retorick passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020, at the Lawton/Fort Sill Veteran Center in Lawton, Oklahoma.
James Stephen Retorick was born March 26, 1942, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, to Michael W. and Evelyn V. (Ansalvish) Retorick. Steve graduated from Williamsport High School in 1960 and entered the United States Air Force on October 1, 1961. On June 9, 1962, he and Sandra Lee Smith were united in marriage in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. After serving 10 years in the Air Force, he transferred to United States Army where he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer on October 31, 1981. Steve enjoyed camping with his 5 th Wheel and golfing. He also loved deer hunting with his late grandson, Geoffrey Petty.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandy Retorick of Yukon, Oklahoma; two daughters, Christine Petty and her husband Greg of Tipton, Oklahoma and Tamara McKinney of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one brother, William Retorick of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; one sister, Frances Lord of Sun City, Arizona; three grandsons, Bryan Petty and his wife Tracie, Daniel Petty and his wife Amber, and Andrew Broadhead and his husband Justin; and six great-grandchildren, Madison Petty, MyLee Petty, Geoffrey Petty, Sydney Petty, Reese Petty and Grayson Broadhead.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Evelyn Retorick; and one grandson, Geoffrey, Petty.
The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday evening, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Frederick.
