Obituary

Funeral service for Janet Kay Mathis, age 80, of Frederick will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lisa Beavers officiating.  Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick.  Mrs. Mathis passed away on Monday morning, December 14, 2020, in Oklahoma City.

Janet Kay Woods Mathis was born on December 8, 1940, in Frederick, Oklahoma to Eugene William and Nellie A. (Hayter) Woods.  She attended Frederick Public Schools where she graduated as Valedictorian of her senior class.  She received an associate degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.  She and Terrel G. Mathis were united in marriage on August 18, 1961 in Frederick, Oklahoma.  He preceded her in death on September 18, 1999.  She worked for Cameron & Blankenship Insurance Agency for many years and then for Hostick Insurance, prior to working for the State of Oklahoma at the Southwest Juvenile Center and the Department of Human Services.  Janet later retired from the Tillman County Court Clerk Office on February 1, 2017.  She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Frederick where she was active in many church activities. Janet loved spending time with family and friends, shopping and cooking.

She is survived by one son, Jeff Mathis and his wife Linda of Aledo, Texas; one daughter, Jennifer (Mathis) Cheek of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one brother; Bob Woods and his wife Bobby Ann of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, JoAnn Woods of Frederick; three grandchildren, Skyler Mathis, Taylor Cheek and Kellen Cheek.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Nellie Woods; her husband Terrel Mathis, and one brother, Gary Woods.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in memory of Janet Mathis.

Janet may be viewed on Wednesday evening, December 16, 2020 from 6 until 8 p.m.

The service will be live streamed on Facebook at Jackson Funeral Home, Inc.
