Funeral service for former Frederick resident Jay G. Ryan, age 80, of Altus, Oklahoma will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, September 1, 2017, at Jackson Funeral Home in Frederick with Rev. Joe Allen May officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Ryan passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2017, in an Oklahoma City hospital.
Jay G. Ryan was born on August 27, 1937, in Blythe, California to John Guilford and Bernice Beatrice (Hartsell) Ryan, III. He attended Frederick Public School and graduated from Frederick High School in 1956. On January 30, 1957, he and Louise Elton Caudill were married in Vernon, Texas. She preceded him in death on February 12, 2010. Jay G. had worked as an iron worker on missile sites in Southwest Oklahoma and Sedalia, Missouri. He moved back to Oklahoma where he worked out of the Union Hall, Local 48 of Oklahoma City as an iron worker. He later was self-employed and built barns and fences for farmers and feed lots in Tillman County before becoming a superintendent on several military bases throughout Oklahoma & Texas.
He is survived by three daughters, Tina Ryan of Carnegie, Oklahoma, Gina Wells and husband Donnie of Frederick, Oklahoma and Sheri Ryan and Mark Chavez of Carnegie, Oklahoma; one son, Jay Glen Ryan of Blair, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Michelle Casey and husband Jack, Russell Smith and wife Krissy, Josh Key and wife Jessica, Jay Don Wells and wife Rachel, Petrina Westover and husband Jimmy, Jay L. Ryan, Jessica Hopingardner and husband Chris, Kara Ryan, Jackie Cartwright, Rachel Ryan, Zachery Ryan, Stormy May, River Ryan, Rayn Ryan and Rishen Ryan; twenty great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Teddy Don Smith; and one sister, Pamela Jean Crain.
