Obituary

Memorial service for Jay B. Woodward, age 71, of Indiahoma, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Indiahoma School Gym with Daryl Perry and Kerry Givens officiating. Mr. Woodward passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016.

Jay B. Woodward was born on August 23, 1945 in Lawton to J.B. and Ruth Adeline (Thorp) Woodward. He attended Indiahoma Public School and graduated from Indiahoma High School in 1963. He attended Cameron University before transferring to Oklahoma State University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Education. Jay began his career in Vo-Ag at Mountain Park and Indiahoma each for a year before teaching at Lawton MacArthur for 17 years. During that time, he was in charge of the sheep program for the Lawton FFA. He owned the A-Team Classic which was a select sheep sale in El Reno, Oklahoma for over 20 years. Jay retired from teaching in 1985 and moved to Texas where he was the Assistant Editor of The Show Ring Magazine in Albany, Texas, the Editor of the Purple Circle Magazine in Early, Texas and the Editor of the Showbox Magazine in Crockett, Texas. Jay worked as a distributor for Showfeeds, Inc. in Crocket. After he and Twyla moved back to Indiahoma, Geronimo was needing a Vo-Ag teacher so he went back to the classroom until his second retirement in 2015. During his lifetime, he loved his students, fishing, his dogs, Chucky and Louie and whoever he could pick at. Jay enjoyed teaching Vo-Ag and his involvement in purchasing many sheep for the kids' livestock programs. He had judged livestock at many fairs including the Ohio State Fair. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Since his battle with cancer, Jay had found his Lord in a real way. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Indiahoma.

He is survived by his wife Twyla Woodward of the home; two sons, Randy William Woodward and his wife Sheryl of Lawton and Dustin Hugh Brown of Grand Lake, Oklahoma; one daughter, Jaymie Woodward Landreth and her companion Matt Thedford of Grapevine, Texas; one brother, Johnny Hugh Woodward and his wife Carrie of Indiahoma; one sister-in-law, Soni Fort of Moore, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Shayla Rachelle Woodward of Alex, Mandy Shyann Woodward of Lawton, Reese Cayne Landreth of Grapevine, Texas and a special grandchild, Myla Long Soldier of Indiahoma; several cousin, nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 5-7 on Wednesday evening, October 12, 2016 at the funeral home.
