Jeanette Hunter

Funeral services for Jeanette Hunter, age 72, of Lawton, Oklahoma, will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Ms. Hunter passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at St Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Jeanette Marie Hunter was born October 26, 1953, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Raymond and Doris Hunter. She attended Boyd High School prior to integration and later attended Frederick High School, graduating with the Class of 1971. Jeanette was raised in St. Paul A.M.E. Church, where her early foundation of faith was formed.

Jeanette was a homemaker and the proud mother of Dexter Hunter and Courtnee’ Hunter-Crane. Affectionately known by family and friends as “Chicken” or “Chickadee,” Jeanette will be remembered for her unforgettable personality, wonderful sense of humor, love of family, and the laughter she brought to those around her.

Jeanette loved music and dancing, and she especially enjoyed watching Judge Judy and Dancing with the Stars. Those who knew Chicken knew that she had a personality all her own, a way of making people laugh, and a way of saying exactly what was on her mind. Her humor and spirit created memories that her family and friends will continue to share for years to come.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Doris Hunter, and her sisters, Pamela Hunter, Bevela Jackson, and Lee “Squirtty” Hunter.

Jeanette leaves to cherish her memory her son, Dexter Hunter; daughter, Courtnee’ Hunter-Crane; sister, Rita Hunter-Nellis, and her husband, Carl; nieces, Paula Boggess and Sable Nellis; great-nieces, Mackenzie Boggess and Kadynn Boggess; twin great niece and nephew, Hazel and Hunter Nellis-Ramatowski; along with a loving extended family and many friends.

Jeanette completed her earthly journey on August 13, 2026, at the age of 72. While her journey here has ended, the love, laughter, personality, and memories she gave to her family and friends remain.

To those who knew her as Jeanette, Chickadee, Chicken, Mama, sister, aunt, cousin, or friend, she leaves behind something different for each person to remember, and a lifetime of stories worth sharing.

Her love and laughter will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
