Obituary

Graveside Service for former Manitou resident, Jerry Lynn Kersey, age 84, of Temple, Texas will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery with Michael and Kameron Kersey officiating.  Burial will follow under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Kersey walked into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, surrounded by his loved ones.

The family will receive friends and family on Thursday evening, February 27, 2025, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel, 921 West Gladstone Avenue, Frederick, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.

Jerry Lynn Kersey was born September 23, 1940, in Frederick, Oklahoma to Asa Earl and Mary Lee (Murphy) Kersey.  He attended Manitou Public Schools, graduating from Manitou High School with the Class of 1958. On October 14, 1961, he and Mary Pearlyne Wallace were united in marriage at the Trinity Baptist Church in Frederick, Oklahoma. He later attended Draughn's Business College and Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. In 1980, he received a Master's Degree in Religious Education/Church Music, from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He owned and operated K & M Bookkeeping in Wichita Falls, Texas for many years.

Jerry spent most of his adult life serving the Lord by working with Texas Baptist Men, Missouri Baptist Convention, Oklahoma Baptist Convention, most of those years was spent with working with Royal Ambassador's, a boy's program in the Baptist Church. He spent many Sundays at his local church as church organist.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pearlyne Kersey of the home; two sons, Jeffrey Kersey and his wife Belinda of Belton, Texas, and Michael Kersey and his wife Bridget of Joplin, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Kendall Kersey and his wife Megan of Manhattan, Kansas, Marnie Eckels of Carthage, Missouri, Ryan Kersey of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Matthew Kelley and his wife Crystal of Bolivar, Missouri, Kale Kersey of Temple, Texas, Casey Mountain and her husband Cody of Buffalo, Missouri, Kameron Kersey and his wife Emily of Temple, Texas, and Michael Kelley of Bolivar, Missouri; fourteen great-grandchildren, Kenley, Kannon, and Graceson Kersey, Kaylin, Tyrion, and Lena Kersey, Cecilia, Carlie, Cyrus, and Cade Mountain, Letty and Landen Kelley, and Sara and Bethany Eckels; a son-in-law, Rick Pennington of Bolivar, Missouri; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Roberta and Sam Phelps of Frederick, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Mary Kersey; a daughter, Tammie Kelley Pennington; a granddaughter, Sara Kersey; and a sister and brother-in-law, Erma and James Degan.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, in memory of Jerry Lynn Kersey.
