Jerry Wayne "Hook" Mayfield, age 73 transitioned from this life on April 19, 2025, with his family by his side at the Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was a loving sibling, devoted father, cherished grandfather / great grandfather, and dear friend to many.
Born in Lawton, Oklahoma on August 27, 1951, to Jessie Mae Harkins and Eddie Mayfield, Hook lived a life filled with love, laughter, and kindness. He will be remembered for his warm smile and gentle demeanor.
Hook worked as a farm hand for Edgar Hamm for over 30+ years where he was respected for his dedication and hard work. He approached every task with diligence, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of working with him. Hook united with The Church of the Living God at a young age where he served on the Usher Board and was a member of the gospel group, The Singing Trustees.
In his free time, Hook enjoyed hunting, fishing and sitting in the front yard talking to his friends, finding solace and joy in the simple moments spent with family and friends. He was an avid farmer. His biggest enjoyment came from spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Sheyla Adams and her family who were at his bedside until the end.
Hook will be dearly missed by his beloved children: Norman Mayfield of Frederick, Oklahoma; Crystal Blackmon of Dallas, Texas; Christopher Shelton and Jeremy Shelton of Vernon, Texas. Four sisters: Linda Isham of Frederick, Oklahoma; Sylvia Calip and Sandra Johnson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Inell Moore and her husband Donald of Midwest City, Oklahoma. Five brothers; James Mayfield, Byron Mayfield, Ronnie Mayfield, Percy Mayfield and Bruce Mayfield of Duncan, Oklahoma. One sister-in-law, Patricia Mayfield of Corsicana, Texas. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Kyndal (Tater) and Taysom, and his special friend, Cheryl Sims, and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Rosie Chaney and Lou Ann McIntyre, and two brothers, Eddie Mayfield and Ronnie Mayfield.
Hook may have left this world, but his love and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
