Funeral services for Jerry Dean Self, age 81, of Lawton, Oklahoma, will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the Cameron Baptist Church, 2621 SW C Avenue, Lawton, Oklahoma with Bro. Bob Jones officiating and Bro. Mike Teel assisting. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Lawton, Oklahoma under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. Self passed away Monday, January 1, 2024, at his home in Lawton.
Jerry Dean Self was born on March 19, 1942, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Buster Chester and Jewel Mae (Flowers) Self. He attended Tipton Public Schools, graduating from Tipton High School with the Class of 1960. He attended some college and a trade school at the local union hall. Jerry was united in marriage to Sharon Sue Smith on September 29, 1962, at the Assembly of God in Tipton, Oklahoma. He was an electrician by trade. He started his trade by going through the Local Electrical Union #590 in Lawton, Oklahoma under the apprenticeship program then later worked with Young Enterprises based out of Sherman, Texas. Upon completion of his training, he worked for Young Electric out of Altus, Oklahoma before opening his own business in 1995 called Southern Plains Electric.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Sharon, of the home; two sons, Jerry Neil Self and his wife Cheryl of Elgin, Oklahoma, and Dustin Deon Self and his wife Kimberly of Lawton, Oklahoma; one daughter, Misty Ann Chandler of Lawton, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Aaron Chandler and his wife Lindsey, Austin Chandler, Ethan Chandler and his wife Kaitlyn, Tarran Self and his wife Savannah, Jagger Self, Jordan Self and his wife Ashlie, Jerni Self, and Summer Self; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters- and brothers- in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents Buster and Jewel Self; and one sister, Janiece Laseter.
Memorial donations may be given to the Cameron Baptist Church Building Fund in loving memory of Jerry Dean Self.
