Memorial service for Jim Weegie Williams age 78, of Hobart, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2019, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick, Oklahoma with Dr. Danny Griffin officiating. Private inurnment will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. And on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., a Celebration of Weegie's Life will be at the Mosaic United Methodist Church, 3131 N.W. 50 th Street, Oklahoma City 73112. Following the service there will be refreshments served and a time to reflect on Weegie's life. He passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019, in the Noble Health Care Center.
Jim Weegie Williams was born February 23, 1940, in Frederick, Oklahoma to Byron Edward and Beulah Marie (Potts) Williams. He attended Frederick Public Schools where he lettered in football and was an outstanding athlete. He served as quarterback for the '56 Bombers. After graduation in 1958, he attended Denver University on a football scholarship. He and Carol Kuhn were united in marriage on March 30, 1961, at the Methodist Church in Carnegie. To this union was born two daughters Weegina Benee' and Weedonna Jenee'. In 1962, he returned to Oklahoma where he attended Oklahoma City University as a ministerial student and received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Religious Studies. He later attended Phillips University in Enid and received his Masters of Divinity. Weegie served as youth minister at Paoli United Methodist Church, Wickline United Methodist Church of Midwest City and First United Methodist Church of Enid. He served pastorate at, Aline United Methodist Church, Canton First United Methodist Church, Mannford First United Methodist Church, Central United Methodist Church of Enid, Willow View United Methodist Church of Enid, First United Methodist Church of Frederick, First United Methodist Church of Pauls Valley and Hollis United Methodist Church. On June 4, 1995, he and Opal Hudson were married on June 4, 1996, in Fort Worth, Texas. He later served at Southern Hills United Methodist Church of Oklahoma City and Alva United Methodist Church where he retired in 2005, after serving for over 44 years in the ministry. Opal preceded him in death on August 18, 2018. He was a former member of the Lions Club and served as President of the American Diabetes Association. On August 20, 2007, he and his 1956 Bomber teammates were inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame which was an honor and highlight of his life.
He is survived by his two daughters, Weegina Benee' "Weegi" Williams of Norman, Oklahoma and Weedonna Jenee' "Donna" Roth and her husband David of La Mesa, California; one sister, Jane Ann (Williams) Gist of Arlington, Texas; two grandchildren, Indigo Roth and Zane Roth both of La Mesa, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Beulah Williams; one sister, Sara Louise (Williams) Distefano; one brother, Byron Edward Williams, II; and his wife, Opal Williams.
