Funeral service for former Frederick resident, John William "GoGo" Johnson, age 67, of Newport News, Virginia will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Johnson passed away on March 5, 2016 in Virginia.
John William Johnson was born on August 22, 1948 in Tipton, Oklahoma to Ras and Josephine (Henry) Johnson. He grew up in Frederick and attended Kennedy Elementary and Boyd High School. He worked at Centra Leather Good in Frederick; after moving to Michigan he worked at Car Factory. He later moved to Virginia and worked at Dillard's and was a self employed mechanic for many years. He loved to fish and hunt and was a motorcycle and car enthusiast. He enjoyed working on them and riding across the country.
He is survived by one daughter, Sharon Jones and her husband Alfred of Oklahoma City; three sons, John Johnson, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, Bradley Johnson and Jason Loyd both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two brothers, James Edward Johnson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and R. J. Johnson of Newport News, Virginia; four sisters, Christine Anderson and her husband Andy of Lawton, Carol Edwards of Lawton, Loretta Martin and her husband Tony of Newport News, Virginia, Wanda Kay Lewis and her husband Ray of Newport News, Virginia; two aunts, Katherine Thompson of Wichita Falls, Texas and Beth Mayberry of Amarillo, Texas; ten grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ras and Josephine Johnson; grandparents, James and Nancy Henry, one sister, Sunshine Cade; three brothers, Buster Johnson, Gene Autry Johnson and Charles Ray Johnson; and two uncles, Joe Boy Sherman and James Henry.
