Obituary

Funeral service for John H. Herring, age 72, of rural Tipton will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 1, 2015 at the Tipton Church of Christ with Teddy White and Sam Killebrew officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Herring passed away on Friday, May 29, 2015 at this home. John H. Herring was born on April 23, 1943 in Tipton, Oklahoma to William Aubrey and Juanita (McIntyre) Herring. He attended school in Tipton and graduated from Tipton High School in 1961. He then went to Southwestern State University in Weatherford where he received his Bachelor Degree in Accounting. John H. had also served in the United States Air National Guard. On June 30, 1968, he was united in marriage to Carol Ann Freeman in Hobart, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on February 18, 1986. He worked as a public accountant for Scott Quigley in Altus for many years. Then on January 6, 1990, John H. married Karrie Kate (Baucum) Mathis in Altus, Oklahoma. He had also worked as the Officer of Administrative Services for Southwest Rural Electric Cooperative in Tipton. He retired in January of 2013. He devoted his life to agriculture, farming and ranching. He became interested in Canaries and would show and sell them. John H. also raised and showed miniature horses and Shetland ponies from which he received many awards. He was well known and respected all over the United States in the horse industry. He was a member of the Tipton Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife Karrie Herring of the home; three sons, Jason Herring and Judson Herring and his wife Jeanne all of Altus and Bennett Mathis of Tipton, two sisters, Nita Jo Manning of Tipton and Raenell Wray of Weatherford; five grandchildren, John Jordan Herring, Laramee Renee Herring, Jackson Ray Herring, Jaycee Anne Herring and Dillon Chase Herring.
