John Wayne Powell, age 76, of rural Frederick, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at his home. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home.

He was born to Henry and Nora (Jones) Powell on October 20, 1946, in Phoenix, Arizona. John grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He and Mary Belle Smith were united in marriage on January 19, 1970, in Indio, California. John spent 40 years as a long-haul truck driver. Many of those years he teamed with his wife.  After his retirement from truck driving, John worked on his farm.

John treasured nothing more in life than time with his family. Some of his favorite times were summers at the lake with his wife and winters sitting around the campfire with his daughter.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Smith) Powell; one daughter, Trudy Burleson and husband Eugene; three grandchildren, Aaron Burleson, Katlin Burleson, and Jonathan Burleson; and four great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Nora Powell and his six siblings.
