Obituary

Funeral service for Joseph Mitchell Thompson age 76, of Frederick, Oklahoma will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the First Baptist Missionary Church, with Rev. Michael Logan officiating.  Burial will follow in the Tipton Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home.  Joe departed this life on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, in Frederick, Oklahoma.

Joseph Mitchell Thompson was born October 5, 1945, in Frederick, Oklahoma to Henry Curtis Thompson and Jessie Mae (Adams) Thompson.  He accepted Christ early in his life and was a member of Hawkins Chapel in Frederick, Oklahoma under the pastorage of Elder Howard Huggins.  Joe graduated from Boyd High School in 1964 and was a member of the Boyd High School Basketball Team.

After graduation, Joe enlisted in the United States Army in 1964.  He completed Basic Training at Fort Hamilton, New York.  He served two years of active duty in West Germany then was honorably discharged in 1966.  He later met and married Barbara Ann Wright on March 29, 1968.  To this union, one child, Jacqueline Kay Thompson was born.

Joe was employed by Frederick Elementary School as a custodian.  He later worked at Centra Leather Goods, and then Henniges Automotive as a forklift operator for twenty-six years.  He loved fishing, listening to music, and playing dominoes with family and friends.

Cherishing his memory are the survivors:  Annie B. Lidy of the home; one son, Tony Satterwhite of Phoenix, Arizona; one granddaughter, Leslie Satterwhite of Seattle, Washington; two great-grandsons, Yenier Valadez and David Valadez; two brothers, Early Ray Thompson of Norfolk, Virginia, and Aron Thompson of Lawton, Oklahoma; four sisters, Neldon Gentry and her husband Larry of Oakland, California, Jennie Smith and her husband Marion of Frederick, Oklahoma, Katie Bridges and her husband Charles of Pittsburg, California, and Linda Riggs and her husband Kyle of Lawton, Oklahoma; other children who shared his life:  Dorothy Barber, George Barber, Leonard Barber, Ricky Lidy, Marcus Lidy, Shaunda Lidy, and Yolanda Lidy; and a special niece, Sheila Vaughn of Lawton, Oklahoma.  He will be missed by numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, uncles, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Jessie Thompson; his wife, Barbara Ann Thompson; one daughter, Jacqueline Kay Thompson; one brother, Curtis Thompson; and one sister, Annie Louise Thomas.

He may be viewed on Monday, April 25, 2022, from 11:00 a.m., until 8:00 p.m., at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick.
