Celebration of Life for Joy Etta Crowell, age 87, of Davidson, Oklahoma will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2020, at the First Baptist Church in Davidson, Oklahoma with Rev. Les Banks officiating. Private family burial will precede the service in the Davidson Cemetery. Mrs. Crowell passed away on March 11, 2020, at McMahon-Tomlinson Nursing Center in Lawton.
Joy Etta Crowell was born on June 27, 1932, in Davidson, Oklahoma to Cecil and Dicie Mae (Doyle) Taylor. She attended Davidson Public School, graduating from Davidson High School with the class of 1950. Joy was united in marriage to the love of her life J.B. Crowell on September 13, 1950 in rural Davidson. He preceded her in death on March 23, 2019. She and J.B. owned and operated Crowell Exxon and Wrecker Service in Wichita Falls, Texas from 1961 until 1976. Upon selling their business, they returned to their hometown of Davidson. They enjoyed traveling throughout the country in their RV after their retirement. Joy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her world. She loved the outdoors, working in her yard and garden. Joy and J.B. loved spending time in the Wichita Mountains enjoying the beauty of God's nature. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Davidson.
She is survived by her two daughters, Connie Tatum and her husband Jim of Richardson, Texas and Gayle White and her husband Joe D. of Frederick, Oklahoma; three sisters, Carlene Parris of Davidson, Oklahoma, Dorothy Hendrix of Altus, Oklahoma, Sue Howe and her husband Buddy of Burkburnett, Texas; one sister-in-law, Jackie Taylor of Weatherford, Texas; five grandchildren, Dr. James Tatum and his wife Dr. Veronica Tatum, Bridger Tatum and his wife Jenny, Jessica Lewis and her husband Justin, Whitney Bell and her husband Brandon and Austin White and his wife Dr. Allie White; eight great-grandchildren, Harper and Cole Tatum, Emily and Dylan Tatum, Parker and Asa Lewis, and Barrett and Briar Bell; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.B. Crowell; one brother, Pete Taylor; three brothers-in-law, Buck Parris, Jim Hendrix and Bobby Crowell.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Davidson, Davidson Cemetery Fund or the Frederick School Enrichment Foundation in memory of Joy Etta Crowell.
