Celebration of Life for J.T. Hooker age 87, of Tipton, Oklahoma will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick with Rev. Les Banks officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Tipton Cemetery, under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. Hooker passed away Monday, January 31, 2022, at the English Village Manor in Altus, Oklahoma.
James Tillman Hooker was born on October 7, 1934, in Lawton, Oklahoma to Hollis B. and Bertha Bell (Smith) Hooker. J.T. attended Tipton Public School, graduating from Tipton High School with the Class of 1953. He was an outstanding athlete and was on the 1952 State Championship Football Team. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After his military career, J.T. received several welding accreditation certificates through the years. He worked as a certified welder for Dallas Airmotive in Frederick and Dallas for over 28 years, On December 7, 1988, he was involved in an automobile accident that left him disabled. Through hard work and tenacity, he defied all medical expectations and was able to live a quality life.
J.T. enjoyed county music, rodeos, and was an outstanding singer. He and Billie Rue loved blue grass music and enjoyed square dancing. He was an outstanding poet that wrote and published many pieces of poetry. J.T. was very crafty; he had a talent he could make anything he saw. Throughout the years he made many different relics that were given to family and friends. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, and the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by this wife of 65 years, Billie Rue Hooker of the home; two sons, Jubal Hooker and his wife Stephanie of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Michael Hooker of Tipton, Oklahoma; one daughter, Tanya Alsobrook and her husband Bobby of Lake Charles, Louisiana; two sisters, Donna Taucher and her husband Claude of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Darlene Evans of Farmington, New Mexico; and two grandchildren, Natalie Hooker and A.J. Hooker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hollis and Bertha Hooker; one daughter, Theresa Franks who preceded him in death on January 1, 2022; his in-laws, Bill and Lucille Milligan; and a brother and sister-in-law, Hershall and Linda Hooker.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice in memory of J.T. Hooker.
