Funeral service for Lahoma D. Simpson, age 92, of Tipton, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Tipton with Rev. Harold Gaches and Rev. Paul Beam officiating. Burial will follow in the Tipton Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mrs. Simpson passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Carnegie Nursing Home in Carnegie, Oklahoma.
Lahoma D Southern Simpson was born on July 23, 1924 to Raul and Blanche (Robertson) Southern. She attended school in Tipton and graduated from Tipton High School in 1942. After high school, Lahoma worked as a riveter at Douglas Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. On December 10, 1945, she was united in marriage to Jack Walton Simpson in Tipton, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on August 19, 2009. Lahoma was a great cook and had worked in the Tipton Grade School Cafeteria and also cooked for the harvest crew "meals in the field". She had worked as church secretary for the First Baptist Church for 35 years before she retired. Lahoma was most proud of being a wife, mother and grandma. She was an active member of the Tipton First Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School and participated in WMU.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Carol Smith and her husband Allen of Anadarko; one son, David Simpson of Tipton; three grandchildren, Erin Berry and her husband Tim of Mountain View, Shelly Nation of Tipton and Kristen Ford of Chickasha; twelve great-grandchildren, Bryanna Sackett, Brayden Beaver, Sooner Boardingham, Jackolbi Ford, Joseph Beaver, Charlie Beaver, Gus Blackburn, Freedom Blackburn, Lance Blackburn, A'yana Smith, Michael Smith and his wife Emmalee and Glennetta Smith; seven great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Tonia and Ron Woolever, Andrea and David Smith, Randy and Nancy Hasley, Travis Hasley and Gina Edwards, other nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one great-granddaughter, Angel Blackburn; and one brother, Bill Southern.
Mrs. Simpson may be viewed from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon at the church in Tipton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tipton First Baptist Church or the Carnegie Nursing Home Activity Fund.
