Funeral service for Laverne Dempsey age 69, of Mountain Park, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 24, 2019, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick with Pastor Joshua Beason officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain Park Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Dempsey passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019, at the Ayers Nursing Home in Snyder, Oklahoma.
Maudie Laverne (Bates) Dempsey was born December 29, 1949, Seymour, Texas to Dalton Dow and Sybil Verna (Massie) Bates. The family moved to Mountain Park where Laverne graduated from Mountain Park High School in 1968. On May 31, 1968, she and Henry Lee Dempsey were united in marriage in Mountain Park, Oklahoma. She worked as a press operator for CR Industries in Hobart, Oklahoma for over twenty years; retiring in 2004. Laverne was an excellent seamstress; she made all her family's clothes and made hundreds of beautifully designed dolls. She was well known as an exceptional cook! A few of her specialties were her wonderful apple pies, chocolate pies and cinnamon rolls. She was a faithful Christian; she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mountain Park.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Henry Dempsey of Mountain Park, Oklahoma; three children, Lisa Pruett and her husband Brent of Snyder, Oklahoma, Julie Schulz and her husband Rod of Canton, Kansas and Daniel Dempsey and his wife Vanessa of Snyder, Oklahoma; four sisters, Treva Beason and her husband Jimmie of Snyder, Oklahoma, Carolyn West and her husband Jerry of Lawton, Oklahoma, Glenda Holtke and her husband Greg of Marlow, Oklahoma, and Darla McKinney and her husband Jeff of Manitou, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Leah Davis and her husband Garrett, Brentlee Pruett, Bethanee Pruett, Spencer Pruett, Tyler Schulz, Emily Brannon, Sam Brannon, Morgan Dempsey and Amelia Dempsey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dalton and Sybil Bates; and one sister Debora Bates.
Memorial contributions made be made to the Mountain Park Cemetery Association in memory of Laverne Dempsey.
