Lottie Beth
Smith
Dec 10, 1933 — Mar 13, 2023
TIPTON
Lottie Beth Smith, age 89, of Tipton, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, March 13, 2023, at her home. Private family services will be held in Hugo, Oklahoma.
Lottie Beth Smith entered this world on December 10, 1933, in Hugo, Oklahoma. She was the last of six children born to I.N. and Peggy (Thomas) Knox, but the first to be born in a hospital.
Lottie was a tomboy who grew up playing with a dog named Sadie and riding a horse name Sorghum (because he was slower than molasses!). She played the drums in the high school band so she could watch her brothers play football. After graduating at 17, she left home to attend St. Anthony School of Nursing preparing her for a 67-year nursing career.
There was nothing Lottie would not do for her patients; emptying bedpans, giving baths, working in ICU for days at a time, delivering babies, assisting in surgery, completing care plans and work schedules after hours, were only a few of her talents. She was known for her high expectations. The patient and their care always came first.
Along the way, Lottie met and married a farm boy named J.M. Smith. Together they had two daughters, Sherri and Dana. Sadly, she lost J.M. after 65 years of marriage.
Those left to tell Lottie tales include her daughters, Sherri Morrow and husband Allen of Haskell, Texas, and Dana Simmons of Wichita Falls, Texas; three grandchildren, Shelby Jones and husband Ken of Tyler, Texas, Kelcey Simmons of Pennsylvania, and Preston Morrow of Abilene, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Killian Jones, Freya Jones, and Nikolai Jones; one sister, Mary Louise Mayfield of Hugo, Oklahoma; two sisters-in-law, Betty Smith of Houston, Texas and Veta Smith of Tucker, Georgia; several nieces and nephews; and very special neighbors, Alan and Susie Boyd of Tipton, Oklahoma.
Lottie is now reunited with her husband, J.M. Smith; parents I.N. and Peggy Knox; her four brothers, Shelby Knox, Gene Knox, Joe Knox, and Jimmy Wayne Knox.
Sherri and Dana want to give special thanks to Dr. Trenton Mefford and Elara Caring Hospice Care of Lawton for their care and kindness shown to and for our mother. You made her journey end in peace and comfort.
Memorial contributions may be made to OMRF Cancer Division or Tipton Children's Home in memory of Lottie Beth Smith.
