Obituary

Funeral services for former Comanche County resident Louise (Watts) Glandon Simmons, age 95, of The Woodlands, Texas will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Indiahoma United Methodist Church in Indiahoma, Oklahoma with Rev. Jim Perkin officiating, assisted by Daryl Perry. Burial will follow in the Cache cemetery under the direction of the Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Louise died Wednesday, October 8, 2014. Louise was born June 9, 1919 in Valliant, Ok. to Amos Frank and Ora Elizabeth (Weller) Watts, both of whom were pioneers to the area. Frank was born in Indian Territory on leap year day February 29, 1892. Ora moved to Oklahoma Territory with her family in a covered wagon when she was about eight years old. Louise grew up in Chattanooga where she was surrounded by a large extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She attended local elementary schools in the Chatty area, graduating from Cache High School in 1938. After attending a year of college at Edmond, Louise met her future husband , H.R. Glandon, on a blind date arranged by her sister, Ruth. Louise and Hester enjoyed 33 happy years of marriage until Hester's untimely death. Louise was a loving wife, mother and friend with a kind sensitive soul and a sweet, generous spirit that endeared her to those whose lives she touched. Her home was filled with love, laughter, good food and lots of family and friends. As part of the great generation, Louise suffered and persevered through the Great Depression, WWII and the Dust Bowl. She was a hard worker whether it was canning the summer's bounty of vegetables or plowing the north 40 acres of the family farm. She was a bit of a romanticist and would often prop a book of poetry on the windowsill of the kitchen sink and read and recite poetry while she washed dishes. She loved sports, especially tennis and in fact preferred playing tennis to eating. As a testimony to her toughness and stamina, on her 86th birthday all she wanted to do was play some tennis, which she did. Louise was a member of the Indiahoma United Methodist Church for over 60 years, participating in church activities such as choir, women's circle and crafts. She also served as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and a sponsor of the Methodist Youth Fellowship. Louise was twice widowed, first in 1972 by the death of husband H.R. Glandon and again in 1993 with the death of her second husband, Paul Simmons. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ruth Davis and her husband Bill of Indiahoma, her brother James Watts, and her brothers-in-law David Camp and Gene Shepard of Brownwood, Texas. Family cherishing her memory are: three daughters, Judy Macfadzean and her husband Bob of Indiahoma, Joyce Glandon of Baltimore, Md., Linda Henderson and her husband, Scott Bucker of The Woodlands, Tx; six grandchildren, John Macfadzean of Indiahoma, Suzanne Macfadzean of Denton, TX, James Macfadzean of Dallas, Lynn Livingston of Baltimore, Alan Livingston of Denver, and Sam Livingston and his wife Laurie of Sparks, Md; five great grandchildren, Lindsey, Riley and Leah Livingston, Michael Turner, and John Robert Macfadzean; two sisters, Jewell Shepard of Dallas, TX and Gladys Camp of Spring , TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
