Funeral service for Louise Hughes age 93, of Frederick, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel, 921 West Gladstone Avenue, Frederick, with Rev. Les Banks officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Hughes passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Hobart Nursing & Rehab in Hobart, Oklahoma.
Sybil Louise (Harris) Hughes was born January 14, 1931, near Manitou, Oklahoma, to Charlie Henry and Mary Ella (Hardesty) Harris. She attended Indiahoma Public Schools, graduating from Indiahoma High School with the Class of 1948. On December 20, 1947, she and John Wesley "J.W." Hughes were united in marriage in Randlett, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1981. Louise worked as a ward clerk for Tillman County Memorial Hospital before transferring to the clinic side, where she worked as a nursing assistant for Dr. Honaker, Dr. Martin, Dr. Patel, and Dr. DuToit. She returned as a ward clerk for the hospital, where she later retired.
Louise's family was her pride and joy! She loved being involved in her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren's life. Christmas was a special time around the Hughes home, playing "Dirty Santa" was a free for all. Louise always enjoyed hosting the Harris Easter Family Reunion. She was a member of the Tesca Baptist Church.
She is survived by her one daughter, Karen Mitchell and her husband Terry of Hobart, Oklahoma; two sons, John Hughes and his wife Cindy of Royse City, Texas, and Jeff Hughes and his wife Debbie of Frederick, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Arlene Harris of Carlsbad, New Mexico; eleven grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Hughes; one daughter-in-law, Kim Hughes; five brothers; six sisters; and one great-grandson.
