Funeral service for former Frederick resident Loyce Marie Matthews age 95, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma will be at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, February 19, 2023, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick, with Jeannie McMahan officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Matthews passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023, at her home in Oklahoma City.
Loyce Marie (Laney) Matthews was born March 13, 1927, on the family farm near Frederick, Oklahoma, to Roy Gus and Vera Nell (Franks) Laney, she attended Henderson Consolidated #3 south of Frederick where she lettered in basketball. After high school, she attended Draughon's Business College in Wichita Falls, Texas for Court Reporters.
On November 9, 1947, she and Phillip Truette "Boogie" Matthews, were united in marriage, on the Laney family homestead near Frederick; to this union were born two children, Tommy Gus and Tracy Elizabeth. Loyce worked for many years as a court reporter for the Tillman County District Court.
She was a faithful and loyal member of the First Baptist Church in Frederick; she was also a member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority.
Loyce had a great sense of humor and was known for her spunky wit. She loved people and never met a stranger. Her family was her pride and joy! She was an excellent cook and made the best chocolate pie in the world. Loyce was an avid Oklahoma City Thunder fan, with whom she celebrated her 95 th birthday.
She is survived by one daughter, Tracy Matthews of Warr Acres, OK; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Laney of Frederick, OK; three nieces, Terri Gray of Frederick, OK, Tena Beanland of Corpus Christi, TX, and Teresa Kinder of Frederick, OK; her precious caregiver, Mary Casanova of Oklahoma City, OK; and her beloved kitty, Romeo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Vera Laney; her husband, Boogie Matthews who preceded her in death on September 29, 1997; one son, Gus Matthews who preceded her in death on March 16, 1993; and one brother, Roy Nelson Laney.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Frederick Nutrition Center in memory of Loyce Marie Matthews.
Mrs. Matthews may be viewed on Sunday, February 19, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
