Obituary

Funeral service for Lura Fay VanScoder, age 94, of Tipton will be at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at the Tipton Church of Christ with Ken Waugh and Mike Suiter officiating.  Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick.    Mrs. VanScoder , loving wife passed away peacefully at her home in Tipton on Sunday, December 13, 2015.

Lura Fay (Forsyth) VanScoder was born on March 2, 1921 north of Texola, Oklahoma to Joseph Homer and Mary Edna (Moyers) Forsyth.  She graduated from Texola High School in 1939 and Sayre Jr. College in Sayre, Oklahoma in 1941.  After graduation, Lura Fay worked for the Tillman County Tax Assessor.  She married Elton Floyd VanScoder on April 28, 1946 in Tipton.  She attended Southwestern State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma and graduated in 1952 with a degree in business.  She worked as a dedicated bookkeeper for Southwest Rural Electric Association in Tipton, Oklahoma for 33 ½ years.   After retiring in 1986, Lura Fay enjoyed volunteering her time as a reading tutor in a literacy program to help English as Second Language learners. She also tutored students in the second grade at Tipton Grade School, and worked in a Hospice program.  For many years, Lura Fay served as a third grade Bible school teacher at the Tipton Church of Christ.  She also enjoyed meeting friends at the Tipton Senior Citizens Center and mentoring two young men, Christopher Clark and Robert Blankenship who resided at the Tipton home.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, Elton Floyd VanScoder; two daughters, Donna VanScoder Carlton and husband Eugene Casey Carton of Edmond, and Nancy Jean Brooks and husband Robert William Brooks of Friendswood, Texas; two grandchildren, Sarah Rhoads and Timothy Laurence Brooks both of Houston, Texas; one nephew, James Craig Hasty and wife Janice Carol Hasty of Edmond; two great-nieces, two great nephews and numerous cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Addie Ruth Hasty and husband, James Earl Hasty; her brother-in-law, Laruen Roy VanScoder; and a niece, May Pamela Allred.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial donations may be made to Tipton Home in memory of Lura Fay VanScoder.
