Celebration of Life for Butch Pinson age 85, of rural Tipton, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, 300 E. Davis Avenue, Tipton, Oklahoma, with Rev. Harold Gaches and Rev. Les Banks officiating. A brief graveside service will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Pinson passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at his home in Tipton.
Lynn Royce "Butch" Pinson was born December 26, 1938, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Jack Beall and Frances Oline (Payne) Pinson. He attended Tipton Public Schools, graduating in 1957, from Tipton High School, where he served as Class President. He later attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman and then transferred to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. In 1961, Butch returned to Tipton and bought the old Gable Farm and began farming and raising Hereford Cattle. He was drafted in the United States Army in 1962. He returned home and resumed his farming and cattle business. Butch also worked for Tipton Farmers Coop, Frederick Farmers Grain & Cotton Company, and Oklahoma Cotton Cooperative Compress.
Butch was swept away on Homecoming weekend at OSU by Nancy Mavis Day from Tulsa, Oklahoma in October of 1960, and finally got her to marry him on March 20, 1965. To this union were born two daughters, Kari Djon and Jo Lynn.
Butch later returned to school at WOSC and received a degree in Drafting and Design. In 1984, he began working as the Frederick Airport Manager. Butch retired in 1999, after 15 years of service. He then began working with the Oklahoma Aeronautics and Space Commission, a division of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation in 1999, as Project Manager for Western Oklahoma. His primary job description changed later to Safety and Standards inspector for all General Aviation Airports in Oklahoma. He served as a private pilot for 49 years, accumulated more than 1400 hours of flying hours. In 2007, he published a book about flying experiences appropriately titled, "Goin' Up and Lookin' Down". Butch retired from the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission in November 2012. An avid Ham radio enthusiast, his handle was WA5WIC.
He was a 3rd generation faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Tipton where he served as Deacon and taught Sunday School for over 50 years. He loved his church. Lynn previously served on the Board of Trustee for Oklahoma Baptist University, "The Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma", Tipton Public School Board of Education, Oklahoma State School Boards Association, National School Board Association, Past President of the Oklahoma Airport Operators Association and later appointed to the Governor's Task Force on Aerospace Education. He was a member of several aviation organizations, (EAA, AOPA, Cessna 120/140 Association, and Antique Airplane Association, Etc.). He had little airplanes running through his blood (read the book).
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 59 years, Nancy Mavis (Day) Pinson; two daughters, Kari Baker and her husband Darren of Altus, Oklahoma, and Jo Lynn Boles and her husband Rod of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; and four grandchildren, Allie Lindsey and her husband Dusty of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Jake Ayers and his wife Morgan of Snyder, Oklahoma, Jackson Boles and Luke Boles both of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; three nieces, Judy McClure and her husband Dan, Jeny Searcy and her husband Mike, and Jana Gruidl and her husband Mike; and one nephew, Seth Day and his wife Sara, along with their families. He cherished a host of special friends and his church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Frances Oline Pinson, and his only brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Lucy Pinson. Keith and Butch were not only brothers, but Keith was Butch's best friend and Butch was Keith's best friend.
