Word has been received of the death of Maria Teresa Giles, age 89, of Tipton, Oklahoma. Services will be held El Paso, Texas with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery in El Paso. Local arrangements are under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mrs. Giles passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014 in an Altus nursing center. Maria Teresa (Guevara) Solorzano Giles was born March 15, 1925, in Mena, Idaho to Victoriano and Josefa (Zapata) Guevara. She attended school in Mexico and El Paso, Texas where she received her GED. In 1943, she and Emiliano Solorzano were united in marriage in Mexico. He preceded her in death in 1956. She later married Leonard A. Giles in 1966 in El Paso. He passed away in 1984. Maria worked for many years as a housekeeping supervisor for Deu Hospital in El Paso. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Altus, Oklahoma. Survivors include, two sons, Jesus Solorzano and his wife Rosa of El Paso, Texas and Pedro Solorzano Guevara and his wife Dolores of Tipton; two daughters: Gabriela Solorzano De Arenas and her husband Mario of Pachuca Hidalgo, Mexico and Francisca Solorzano Rodriguez and her husband Elias of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; three brothers, Reyes, Pedro and Alberto Guevara; one sister, Agustina Guevara; twelve grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Rodolfo, Porfirio and Leonardo Guevara; and three sisters, Paulina Guevara, Guadalupe Guevara and Maria Stratton.
